The Rockets shot a season-low 30.4 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes but rebounded with a 48.3 mark in the second half. UT also took care of the ball better in the second half with 12 assists and five turnovers after intermission.
Williams and Sanford began UT’s comeback with back-to-back treys to reduce Detroit’s cushion to 44-39 a minute later. The Rockets weren’t able to take the lead, though, until another Williams’ three put Toledo ahead 57-56 with 8:16 left. Williams followed that with a layup on UT’s next trip up the court and a pair of Taylor free throws put Toledo up 61-56 with 6:48 remaining.
The Titans closed to within 65-63 on a pair of Jenkins’ free throws at the 3:18 mark, but UT responded by allowing just two points over the remainder of the contest to secure the victory.
Toledo returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 10 when it travels to Huntington, WV to face Conference USA foe Marshall (5-3). Tip-off time is set for 7:00 p.m.
